In this project, I aimed to look at the Buzzfeed format of personality quizzes as the ultimate distraction from our greater societal worries. Specifically, I was interested in looking at how these quizzes are largely used to keep people's minds off of the often unjust or extreme work conditions they experience under capitalism, that have become scarily normalized. A lot of language on Buzzfeed deals with "getting through the week" or "making it to the weekend," and the articles/quizzes themselves function as a kind of band aid distraction from our bigger concerns.

Through this experience, I wanted the user to feel lulled into this usual sense of familiarity that is associated with taking Buzzfeed quizzes, only to be hit with a harder realization about various hardships of working conditions when accessing the Spotify playlists linked with their result. Once the user takes a better look at the playlist they have been given, they encounter important socio-political thoughts from personalities such as Eugene Debs, MLK, and Toni Morrison. The messages in the playlists are hidden in plain sight in the song titles, much like a lot of normalized abuse in the workplace is constantly happening in front of us.

Additionally, I found out after some research that a majority of Buzzfeed users are millennial women, which is why I decided to use a lot of generic gender-coded language in order to imitate common Buzzfeed lingo. Specifically, I wanted to take inspiration from white feminist slogans that feel very generic/commercial, and that feel ultimately oblivious to the real and nuanced challenges faced by women in the workplace.
